The MaDiTraCe project consortium held its second Project Meeting on the 21st and 22nd February in Montanuniversität Leoben, Austria.
After completing the first year of the project, all partners gathered to discuss the results and decide the next steps.
The main topics of the meeting were focused on the progress of the work conducted by the different work package of the project. The main points in the agenda were the technological solutions and the certification system developed to reinforce the transparency, reliability, and sustainability of complex critical raw materials supply chains. The future challenges were addressed on the second day in working group sessions.
In addition, during the consortium meeting, the MaDiTraCe project partners had the opportunity to visit mining sites, Montanuniversität Leoben labs, and the voestalpine company.
Leoben has a rich history of lignite mining and the manufacturing of iron, steel, magnesite, and more. As such, it was important for some of the technical work packages to visit the mine sites in the surrounding areas.
The visit to voestalpine Railway Systems was especially interesting for mining applications and the process of metallurgical production. With over 140 years of technical experience, the company produces more than 1.6 million tons of premium steel every year.
Lastly, part of the team visited the MUL laboratories for the development of some tasks about geochemistry and materials fingerprinting.
The MaDiTraCe project is on track thanks to the efforts of all the partners and received positive feedback from the Advisory Board.
